Skatteverket ID card is ending – last application 27 January 2027

The Skatteverket (Swedish Tax Agency) ID card is being phased out. The last day to apply is 27 January 2027.

If you are not a Swedish citizen

From 1 December 2026 you can apply for the new Police ID card for registered residents. It also includes the SverigeID electronic ID. Book by calling 114 14.

How to apply for the new Police ID card

If you are a Swedish citizen

Apply for a Swedish national ID card or a passport at the Police. If you cannot or do not want a national ID card, you can still apply for the Skatteverket card at Statens servicecenter until 27 January 2027.

Is my current Skatteverket card still valid?

The Police page does not say when cards already issued stop being valid. Check the Tax Agency's own information. The government has proposed legislation to wind down Skatteverket's ID card service.
